Hiring Procedures
Inform us of new ISERP hires before they begin work. New hires are required to submit a number of forms, some of which are required by the Department of Homeland Security to be completed within three (3) days of beginning work.
When hiring casual and work-study employees, provide the following information about the new hire and direct any questions to Jennifer Tromski.
- Name
- E-mail Address
- Social Security Number
If known. - Payroll Designation
Indicate whether the new hire is a casual employee or work-study employee. Note that there is no work-study payroll from mid-May through June, during which period work-study employees will be on the casual payroll. - Start Date of Employment
- End Date of Employment
If known. - Number of Hours to be Worked Per Week
Indicate an approximate or average number if an exact number of hours does not apply. Work-study employees may not work more than 20 hours in any given week during academic terms, and no more than 35 hours per week during spring, summer, and winter recesses. - Pay Rate or Amount
The maximum rate for work-study employees is $12 per hour. - Budget Allocation
Indicate the ISERP center, project, grant, or other budget from which the new hire will be paid.
Once we receive the information above, we will contact the new hire to complete the necessary paperwork. Please let the new hire know that they are obligated to complete the required forms prior to beginning work.

- Students at Columbia University or an Affiliated Institution
Full-time students from September through May: 0%
Full-time students from June through August: 8.15%
Part-time students: 8.15% - Others Paid from Governmental Grant Accounts
