Overview
The Public Opinion Project tracks over time and examines trends in public opinion, public policy, and political leadership, primarily in the United States. The books, articles, and papers from this project have reported on trends in Americans' attitudes toward the full range of government domestic and foreign policies. Topics examined include trends in public opinion toward welfare policy from the time of the 1996 reform legislation through the subsequent period of prosperity that ended in 2001. Other issues currently being examined include taxation and national defense. Future plans include a continuation of the project's long-term study of the effects of public opinion on policymaking, the role of presidential leadership and the mass media in the policy process.
