  • Richard Betts authored an article in the Financial Times comparing Vietnam and the Iraq war and was on Jim Lehrer to discuss whether the crisis constituted a civil war.
  • Â"All Things ConsideredÂ" discussed Richard ClaridaÂ's views on ChinaÂ's undervalued currency. Clarida also commented on carry trades, the practice of borrowing money in countries with low interest rates and investing it in those with high interest rates, in the Wall Street Journal.
  • Nicholas DirksÂ' new book, The Scandal of Empire, was among those featured in an article in the Chronicle of Higher Education about the pitfalls of empire.
  • In a recent NYT article, Lance Freeman discussed the implications of racial disparities in home ownership.
  • Sherry Glied co-wrote a Boston Globe article on how successfully social welfare policies have dealt with mental illness and suggested reforms. She also criticized the insurance industryÂ's proposal to address the health care crisis in America for the San Francisco Chronicle.
  • The NYTÂ's Â"Year in IdeasÂ" featured Ran Kivetz and colleagueÂ's study on hyperopia, an excess of farsightedness.
  • Andrew Nathan reviewed MaoÂ's Last Revolution by MacFarquhar and Schoenhals for The New Republic.
  • The Economist reported on Matthew Salganik and colleaguesÂ' MusicLab study, which created an artificial music market to determine the role of social influence in decisionmaking.
  • In a NYT article, Elliot Sclar commented on the need for community empowerment in areas such as Camden, NJ, where he helped design an economic plan a decade ago.
  • Robert Shapiro analyzed the Oklahoma gubernatorial race for an AP article.
  • Sudhir Venkatesh was on the Brian Lehrer show to discuss his new book, Off the Books: The Underground Economy of the Urban Poor, which was also reviewed in Slate.
  • Duncan Watts was on ABC Primetime Live to discuss an experiment that examines chains of email communication to understand social networks and interconnectivity. Other media features on Watts included a segment on how rumors get started and then spread for Talk of the Nation/Science Friday as well as coverage of Watts and colleaguesÂ' MusicLab project in the Financial Times Weekend Magazine.
