Erika Blacksher received her doctorate in bioethics at the University of Virginia. Her dissertation addressed the ethical obligations that members of a just society have toward those without access to adequate health care. She is also interested in the formulation of public policy and the use of a social structural framework to better the health of populations. Her applied work includes service on a committee for the Kansas City Health Department to identify vulnerable populations and develop an ethically sensitive approach to surveying groups about health needs. For Theoretical Medicine and Bioethics, she was an editor of a special issue on health disparities.
