Research
Lindsay Weiss is a PhD Candidate in the Anthropology Department at Columbia University. In 2006, she conducted an archaeological excavation of a 19th century Diamond Fields site in South Africa with funding from an SSRC International Dissertation Research Fellowship, and in 2005, with funding from the Mellon Foundation, she conducted oral histories with former employees of the De Beers Company and archival research in Kimberley and Cape Town. She is currently writing her dissertation on the relationship between late 19th century imperialism and the segregation of the Diamond Fields of South Africa. Her interests include globalization, finance capital, materiality, gambling, and desire.
