Randall Reback is an Assistant Professor in the Economics Department and Urban Studies Department of Barnard College. He also holds an honorary faculty position in the Program in the Economics of Education at Teachers College. Prior to arrival in New York City, Professor Reback earned a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Michigan and a M.A. in Education from Stanford University.
Professor Reback's research interests pertain to education policy and public finance. In published work, he has examined the effects of entry costs on the supply of public school teachers, the impact of school choice programs on house prices, and the influence of college admissions policies on students' choice of high school. More recently, he is investigating whether school accountability systems, such as those adopted due to the No Child Left Behind Act, cause schools to focus on certain types of students to the detriment of other students' academic performance. He is also interested in applying spatial econometrics to topics in urban economics, such as whether school district expenditure levels are influenced by the behavior of neighboring school districts. At Barnard College, Professor Reback teaches courses including The Economics of Education, Spatial Analysis in Urban Economics, Introduction to Microeconomics, and Econometrics.
