African American and Latino Admissions to Elite Public and Private Professional Schools
by Rodolfo De la Garza (Political Science)
This project examines elite private and public professional schoolsÂ' outreach and recruitment efforts targeting African American and Latino students. These schools are the ones that have prepared, and continue to prepare, elite leadership at both the state and national levels across a multitude of sectors.
Researchers at Columbia will analyze African American and Latino admissions numbers in the selected professional schools, beginning from 1997 to the most current year of data availability. A survey of the institutions will also be conducted to obtain information on basic institutional resources devoted to underrepresented minority recruitment, including the presence of outreach offices and corresponding staff.
