Research Seed Grant | 2002-2003
Health Outcome Information Transmission in Geographic and Social Space
by Kenneth Leonard (Economics)
This seed grant support will help transform an existing data set into a format that will enable it to be analyzed in a GIS database. The investigator has collected information about networks of health information in rural Tanzania in which households learn about the outcomes of illness episodes of other households and thereby gather data about quality in other health facilities. The investigator intends to continue to collect data from the same households and is using the seed grant support as part of the process of seeking more funding for this data collection effort. The greater purpose of the research agenda is to describe the types of information that are efficiently exchanged in these social networks and therefore to inform government policy on the impacts of improvements in quality as well as the impact of decentralization of health services on health outcomes in developing countries.
