The International Response to Population Growth and Movement

by Matthew Connelly (History)

This seed grant will support research necessary for the completion of a book on the history of international efforts to control population growth and movement to be published by Harvard University Press. Together with related publications, it will serve as both preparation and a platform for a follow-on program of sponsored research, student training, and a conference on the comparative history of family planning efforts. The goal is to assess both the origins and prospects of efforts to refocus efforts on reproductive rights and health, and thus bring historical perspectives to what has long been an impassioned debate.
