Global Religion Research Initiative

The initiative is dedicated to supporting the study of religion in global perspective in order to address two weaknesses in contemporary scholarship, namely the neglect of religion as a subject of study in the social sciences and relative neglect of religions outside of the North Atlantic region.

Human Networks and Data Science - Core Research

The Directorate for Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE) seeks to develop user-friendly large-scale next-generation data resources and relevant analytic techniques to advance fundamental research in SBE areas of study. Successful proposals will, within the financial resources provided by the award, construct such databases and/or relevant analytic techniques and produce a finished product that will enable new types of data-intensive research.

The Intersection of Sex and Gender Influences on Health and Disease

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to invite R01 applications on the influence and intersection of sex and gender in health and disease including: (1) research applications that examine sex and gender factors and their intersection in understanding health and disease; and (2) research that addresses one of the five objectives from Strategic Goal 1 of the new 2019-2023 Trans-NIH Strategic Plan for Women's Health Research "Advancing Science for the Health of Women." The awards under this FOA will be administered by NIH ICs using funds that have been made available

RIDIR: Collaborative Research: Bayesian analytical tools to improve survey estimates for subpopulations and small areas

In this project, a set of tools will be built for in-depth analysis of survey data, making use of and extending statistical methods for estimation for small subgroups. Classical methods for surveys are focused on aggregate population-level estimates but we can learn much more using small-area estimation. The goal of this project is to build a user-accessible platform for modeling and visualizing survey data that would give estimates for arbitrary subgroups of the population, along with visualization tools to display estimates of interest.

Their program areas are Culture, Democracy, Education & Economic Mobility, Environment, and Gun Violence Prevention & Justice Reform. They concentrate on initiatives that have an impact across the region and/or within the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

Small Grants in Computational Social Science (CSS)

RSF’s initiative on Computational Social Science supports innovative social science research that utilizes new data and methods to advance our understanding of the research issues that comprise its core social science programs in Social Inequality, Behavioral Economics, Future of Work, and Race, Ethnicity and Immigration. Limited consideration will be given to research that focuses primarily on methodologies, such as causal inference and innovations in data collection.

Understanding and Supporting Anchor Businesses to Build a Culture of Health

This call for proposals will focus on supporting empirical research to understand the ways that for-profit anchors advance health and well-being in the communities where they are located. Funded studies are expected to include rigorous empirical research that will inform the business case for why and how more companies serve as anchor institutions in their immediate surrounding geographies.

Collaboratory Fellows Fund

The program will award grants to pairs of instructors, one with disciplinary/area expertise and one with data-science/computational expertise, to collaborate on the development and teaching of new material that embeds data or computational science into a more traditional domain or the reverse, embeds business, policy, cultural and ethical topics into the context of a data or computer science curriculum. The new content should use pedagogy, instruction, and delivery methods that are fitting for the specific student cohort.
